Engineering Challenges of Filling Powder Products
While filling liquids is relatively easy in the industrial filling world, packaging fine powder products is a true engineering test. Products like Turkish coffee, milk powder, cocoa, or spices tend to remain suspended in the air (dusting).
Dusting experienced during packaging causes malfunctions by leaking into the electronic parts of the machine, causes the package to leak by dirtying the sealing jaws, and leads to a loss of hygiene in the factory environment.
What is the Auger (Screw) Filling System?
The globally accepted best method for filling powder products with high precision is the Auger Filling system.
The system basically consists of a vertically positioned screw and a Servo Motor that turns it. The servo motor calculates how much the screw will turn in millimeters (pulses). For example, the system learns that exactly 250 grams of coffee will be poured when the motor turns 3.5 times.
How is the Dusting Problem Solved?
Dr Mach machines use a 3-stage technology to reduce dusting to zero:
- Bottom-Up Filling: The nozzle goes all the way to the bottom of the package or jar. As the powder fills, the nozzle slowly rises. The distance the powder falls from the air and scatters around is eliminated.
- Dust Extraction Unit: Mini vacuum units integrated into the machine chassis instantly suck the micro particles lifted into the air during filling and filter them to the center. It ensures the sealing area remains clean.
- Enclosed Hopper: The system works in a completely closed loop to prevent moisture intake from the outside.
Dr Mach Auger Powder Filling systems eliminate dust clouds in your factories with servo technology featuring 100% domestic software and integrated dust extraction filters.
